So the connection was there in the early 60s, for anyone who had had a heart attack, and their families.Paul Levinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07609987407926836519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289595359432630118.post-17558374033949875882007-09-30T00:43:00.000-04:002007-09-30T00:43:00.000-04:00Take it from somebody who was there: in the early ...Take it from somebody who was there: in the early '60s, no nonmedical person was making a connection between smoking and heart attacks. By 1960, I had been smoking for 10 years and had 8 more to go. I'm still here, with no lung cancer.

That woman with Betty's widowed father is not her mother-in-law. It's her father's girlfriend. Betty resents her because she thinks the woman is trying to take her dead mother's place.nixxnutzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08821071476215128880noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289595359432630118.post-36587536185956160032007-09-29T19:45:00.000-04:002007-09-29T19:45:00.000-04:00I agree with you on all points. That's why I was sa...I agree with you on all points.

That's why I was saying that Joan could be a time traveler. I of course don't really think this, but what reason could there be for the writers putting in a line that seems so out of time?

Possibly the phrase was already in use in Southern California at that time, and we just don't know that, but the writers did ...Paul Levinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07609987407926836519noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289595359432630118.post-49108189247622675612007-09-29T16:04:00.000-04:002007-09-29T16:04:00.000-04:00The intensity of the scenes between Rachel and Don...The intensity of the scenes between Rachel and Don in her apartment was breathtaking. Has he ever been so vulnerable with another human being? Certainly not that the viewer has seen. His post-coital revelations are probably as close as Draper has ever come to real intimacy.

A couple side notes.
1) I've noticed that Don's been smoking less in recent episodes. It's subtle but progressive.

2) Regarding Joan's anachronism. I don't believe there's a word of dialogue written casually. Whatever the reason, I believe Joan's comment was deliberately crafted.LAhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03007198807321069686noreply@blogger.com
