So if they do merge, would it not make sense that one has to be destroyed, or else both will be?

So then, could the sacrifice Desmond can now sense, I'm sure, be having to choose which reality survives? Hence the reason he needs to show all the others something, because they would have to decide as well?

This episode really made things a bit more clear. It was interesting to see that some of the Losties can sense that the Alt-LA reality has some issues. But, if you presented me with a choice of a reality where I'm stranded and constantly fixated on some island, and one where I'm a millionaire, happily married, made better decisions, which one do you think I would choose? That seems like an easy decision...until you consider one more thing...

What if this is a recycling? Let's face it, should there be an island with a man who is immortal, can grant immortality, and a man that turns into black smoke at all? So maybe UnLocke's decision to go home, to be free has nothing to do with the island. Maybe it has to do with the fact that something created all this mess, and it's time to start over? And starting over will "release" him?

I found this website to be very interesting in regards to merging realities, take a look if you like:
http://www.operationterra.com/Messages/merging6_.html
It's more a spiritual site, but still quite interesting, especially since Lost does play up a philosophical/spiritual aspect.

So what does recycling mean? Well, simply the merging of both realities will result in such a catastrophic shift that smokey ceases to exist, the island no longer exists (sunken or not), Jacob no longer exists, and the Losties never become lost in the first place...a third reality.

And Desmond is definitely the man Mark Benford's wife really wants to run off with!:) A nice "merging" of shows there Paul!TheLooperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01654446986939783563noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2289595359432630118.post-12569071815449400152010-04-08T17:29:00.484-04:002010-04-08T17:29:00.484-04:00I think, given Widmore's knowledge of the isla...I think, given Widmore's knowledge of the island, that the pylons he created keep Locke's smokey-ness out.

As for Desmond, my guess is he does sense something different about Sayid, but doesn't (yet) know that Sayid has gone over to the evil side. I think he is the constant, or will be the link. They however thought he looked dazed and agreed to go with Widmore in a an almost zombie (read Sayid) like fashion because he so blankly switched gears and followed Sayid.
