Weeds 3 Ep 7: Conrad Rules!

WeedsI've been missing Conrad (well played by Romany Malco) on Weeds this season. He's had almost no role, but ...

Last night, he reveals that he - not the Mexicans - was the one who shot Marvin in the ass, as a way of fomenting a war between the Mexican dealers and U-Turn, which Conrad thought would help Nancy and him get out under from under U-Turn's thumb - which is just what it accomplished.

Conrad is clearly the smartest guy (including women) on the show. He's a Luther Burbank genius when it comes to growing weed. And he's a master at strategic planning.

All that remains now is for Conrad and Nancy to finally get together. But it hasn't happened yet, and Nancy, to celebrate her freedom, goes for a little afternoon delight with Sullivan (Matthew Modine), who has been hitting on her, grabbing her ass, as well as hitting on Celia...

Meanwhile, Weeds is starting to give Californication and Tell Me You Love Me a run for their money in the full-frontal nudity department - male and female. Weeds had both last night, with Uncle Andy on hand at a porno shoot.

Next week ... looks as if Peter, or at least his corpse, is back...

Weeds is Back

WeedsYeah, Season 3, tomorrow night, on Showtime...

You may remember that Season 2 left our heroine and heroes in something of a cliff-hanger: Nancy's deal went bad. U-Turn and his crew had guns on the Armenians who had killed Peter and now had guns drawn on U-Turn and company, with Nancy and Conrad in the middle. Everyone was looking for the dope - which, as it turned out, Silas had taken- but not for long, because Celia is about to have him arrested, for something else...

The first episode of Season 3 begins right where the above left off. Nancy (of course) is able to get out of this (you didn't think she'd be killed, did you?), but (of course) not without paying a price (and one which she will continue to pay all season)...

Meanwhile - that lunatic (Kat) who took Shane for a ride leaves him stranded. Uncle Andy and the Inuit bounty-hunter go out in search of him.

So, Season 3 looks every bit as dark and funny as Season 2 - and, who knows, bear in mind that we haven't seen Peter dead, not even shot with our own eyes, so Season 3 could even lighten up a little before its over.

The acting is superb, and it's been throughout the series. Mary-Louise Parker is looking and acting better than ever as Nancy Botwin. Elizabth Perkins is brilliantly bitchy as Celia, Romany Malco has just the right blend of sensitivity and street smarts as Conrad, and nothing Justin Kirk does as Andy is short of hilarious.

Good to hear Randy Newman do the Little Boxes honors at the beginning...
