"Paul Levinson's It's Real Life is a page-turning exploration into that multiverse known as rock and roll. But it is much more than a marvelous adventure narrated by a master storyteller...it is also an exquisite meditation on the very nature of alternate history." -- Jack Dann, The Fiction Writer's Guide to Alternate History

24 Season 9.6: Expendable In-Laws

Another top-notch, jam-packed episode - 9.6 - of 24 just on tonight.

President Heller has finally come to his senses and entrusts Jack with saving London from the drones. But the Brits, unsurprisingly, don't share Heller's faith in Jack, especially since they know that Heller is not in the greatest shape mentally.  Truth is, I was surprised that they allowed an American CIA operation on their soil last week, so their intrusion tonight ties up one important loose end, even as it spells trouble for Jack and Kate.

They're an excellent team, Jack and Kate.   We of course already how good Jack is on these missions. But Kate really distinguished herself tonight: drugged unconscious, woken for torture and interrogation, she manages nonetheless to get the drop on the bad guys after the Brits attack in one of the best scenes in the episode.

Meanwhile, Margot continues to evilly distinguish herself as one of the most ruthless and driven villains in the history of the series.   She not only killed Naveed last week, but this week dispatches her daughter Simone to kill Naveed's sister and niece, to prevent them from leaking any information that can compromise Margot's plans.   It's all in the family with Margot - tonight we also learn that the guy who took from Naveed is her son and Simone's brother - but family only extends to blood relatives for her, and doesn't include in-laws.

Simone's an interesting character.  I was mostly glad when she seemed to be killed by a bus in pursuit of Naveed's niece, but the coming attractions show her still alive, and I'm not too upset about that, either.  Jack will apparently have some use for her.

The big reveal is that Steve is involved in something nefarious.   I didn't like him from the get-go.  But whom was he talking to?   Was it Adrian, the ersatz Julian Assange?   I don't know - it sounded a little like Adrian - and we'll just have to see next week.

24, as is its wont, is managing to weave together all kinds of compelling story lines and threads.  I'm looking forward to the next hour next week.
