Dexter's relationship with Lila is continuing to cure him - well, in a manner of sorts. He takes no real joy in the guy he has to kill tonight, even though the victim more than deserves it. And Dexter has the best sex he's had in the series so far - with Lila, of course - after trying to tell Rita that he actually didn't sleep with Lila last week.
Rita's a bit too quick to walk out on Dexter over this - which she does, the first time, before Dexter has had a chance to explain what didn't happen last week. And by the time they talk, Dexter tells her that he has now indeed slept with Lila - which was certainly prompted, in part, by Rita's walking out on Dexter the night before.
Although Rita looks much better than she did last year - when she looked a little sickly - I think Lila is much better for Dexter, which means all of this is a good step forward for him, by my lights.
On the downside, although Dexter manages to erase incriminating footage of him on his boat on the bay under investigation by FBI agent Lundy (Keith Carradine), Doakes is gearing up to go full snarl after Dexter again, after Dex's sister spills the beans about Dexter not being an addict. If Doakes (played just right by Erik King) and Lundy ever get together, Dexter will really have his work cut out for him...
That's practically a good enough line to conclude this review, but let me also just mention that Dexter's sister maybe falling for Lundy, whose disdain for Masuka and his taste in porn is providing some additional comic relief, in a blend of drama, passion, terror, and humor like nothing I've even seen on television before.

Hey Paul,
how bizarre is this that we like this show so much maybe somethings wrong with us. Nahhhhhhhh. I don't know where things with Lila will take us but it's getting really good. The Doakes thing bothers me but
I think he will get suspended or maybe committed by the Lt. I think they have done a superb job with the writing this season. Did you catch where Dexter said he didn't need to kill him, he just wanted to, thats a big change. Well my friend until next time Hugs
:) hey, Dawn ... there's definitely something wrong with us for liking Dexter so much ... but he beats John from Cincinnati by a mile...
As much as I like her, I have a strong feeling Dexter's relationship with Lila is going to take a turn for the worse.
I also wonder - what if this season ended with Dexter getting caught? At the moment, things are looking like they're going in that direction. If he does get out of this mess, it's going to be an 11th hour save.
At any rate, Season 2 has been really good so far. Michael C. Hall just has that part nailed.
Thankfully, with so many shows halting production due to the WGA Strike, Dexter will finish the season. I'm really curious to see exactly what that end will be.
